Copenhagen at 20, and the state of Scandinavian fashion.

Scandinavian fashion has a reputation for clean lines and calm colours. This year the region's biggest fashion week celebrated two decades, and some of its designers decided calm was not enough.

Copenhagen turns 20

Copenhagen Fashion Week's spring/summer 2027 edition ran from 3 to 7 August 2026, with more than 30 shows and presentations. It marked the event's 20th anniversary. Textalks pointed out that Danish fashion exports have grown 84 percent since 2006.

The schedule mixed returns and debuts. By Malene Birger came back to the runway after six years, showing in the garden of creative director Emilie Martinsen-Kønigsfeld's parents' home outside the city, with sheer evening dresses that recalled the 1990s. Stine Goya and Marimekko also returned.

Hillary Taymour's Collina Strada made its Copenhagen debut on 6 August as the first brand in the week's new International Guest Slot. Helsinki's Almada Label joined the newer Nordic names, and Stem and Taus appeared on the schedule for the first time.

Less minimal than you think

If you expected pared back Nordic neutrals, this season pushed back. Textalks described collections moving past minimalism toward richer colour, lace, fringe, lingerie references and more decorative surfaces, while sporty details and everyday wearability stayed in the mix.

For a city so closely tied to Scandinavian minimalism, that is a real shift, and it was one of the main talking points of the week. Copenhagen also keeps its sustainability rules. Brands on the schedule have to meet a set of minimum standards to take part, although enforcement of two of them was temporarily paused this season after consultation with the Danish industry body.

Meanwhile in Stockholm

Stockholm Fashion Week took place in June. Vogue Scandinavia singled out A-DSGN's debut, which combined structured corsetry with gently oversized shapes, and a closing show by Leoní at Soho House.

And Stockholm's best known label marked a milestone. Acne Studios showed its autumn/winter 2026 collection on 4 March at the Collège des Bernardins in Paris, 30 years after Jonny Johansson founded the brand in 1996.

What it means for streetwear

Scandinavian fashion is moving in two directions at once. The runways are getting louder, while everyday style in the region still runs on a simple formula: good fabric, clean cuts, colours that sit quietly against grey water and concrete.

We are firmly on the second side, and we think there is room for both. A loud runway needs a quiet wardrobe to come home to. Odda is based in Stockholm, and the city's palette of black, grey and washed neutrals runs through every piece. The crewneck in the photo is a good example. Oversized and boxy, 400 GSM French terry, embroidered logo on the chest. Nothing extra.

Twenty years of Copenhagen proves the region has a voice. Ours just happens to speak a little more quietly.
