A hoodie looks simple. It is not. Behind the hood, the cords and the cuffs is a long chain of small decisions, and every one of them changes how the garment feels when you put it on.
It starts with cotton
Everything begins with the fibre. Cotton grows on a plant, gets picked, cleaned and spun into yarn. The quality of that yarn decides a lot: how soft the fabric feels, how well it holds colour, and how it behaves after many washes.
For our hoodies and crewnecks we work with heavyweight cotton fleece. It has a smooth outside and a soft, brushed inside, which is what gives a good hoodie that warm, solid feel the moment you pull it over your head.
From yarn to fabric
Yarn is knitted into fabric, and this is where weight and structure are decided. A denser knit makes a heavier, more stable fabric. That is why a heavyweight hoodie hangs straight and keeps its shape instead of stretching out at the hem or cuffs.
Some of our pieces use French terry instead, with small loops on the inside rather than a brushed finish. It breathes a little more and suits the warmer part of the year, while still feeling substantial.
Colour and wash
Our washed tones are a big part of the Odda look. Instead of flat, bright colours, we go for shades that look slightly lived in: soft blacks, greys, off white and muted neutrals.
Washed tones typically come from a washing step after dyeing, which softens both the colour and the hand feel. The result is a garment that feels broken in from day one and keeps developing as you wear it. No two pieces age in exactly the same way, and we like that.
The details you notice later
Look closely at a black hoodie, at the hood and the cords. These are the parts people rarely think about when they buy, and notice every day after.
- The hood. Cut with enough depth to sit well when it is down and to cover properly when it is up.
- The cords. Simple and clean, so the front of the hoodie stays calm.
- Ribbing. Cuffs and hem are made to hold their grip, so sleeves stay where you push them.
- Seams. Dropped shoulders and a boxy body give room to move, with stitching placed to keep the shape over time.
- Branding. Discreet. The wordmark and prints are placed with care, not stamped across the whole garment.
Stitched to last
When all of that comes together, you get something that should be in your wardrobe for years. That is the point of the whole chain: from the plant to the final stitch, every step is there to make a piece you keep reaching for.
You can help it along. Wash inside out, keep the temperature low, and let it dry flat. Heavyweight cotton rewards a little care with a long life. Treat it well and it will feel softer and look better with every season you wear it.
