The hoodie started life as workwear and sportswear. Somewhere along the way it became the uniform of skaters, musicians and anyone who wanted to keep the world at a distance. In 2026 it is also, once again, a runway piece.
How it got there
The modern luxury hoodie has a fairly clear starting point. In March 2015, during Paris Fashion Week, Kanye West wore one of the first Vetements sweatshirts, a black oversized hoodie with the brand name in heavy metal lettering, two days in a row. Demna, who ran Vetements at the time, was named creative director of Balenciaga that October.
What followed was a decade in which the hoodie moved from the street to the front row and back again, often several times a season.
What the 2026 shows did with it
This year the hoodie did not dominate, but it kept turning up in interesting places.
At Balenciaga's autumn/winter 2026 show in Paris, Pierpaolo Piccioli's menswear included hooded coats, while the womenswear featured graphic hoodies, according to Hypebeast. The hood became a design element rather than just a casual reference.
In June, Pharrell Williams' spring/summer 2027 men's show for Louis Vuitton leaned into surf and skate. Complex singled out a multicoloured knit hoodie as one of the better fitting pieces, Whitewall noted sun-faded hoodies among the surf looks, and Harper's Bazaar Singapore described hoodies placed next to sharp tailoring.
That last detail is the real story. The hoodie is no longer a statement on its own. It is something you wear with a good coat, under a jacket, next to tailored trousers.
What makes a hoodie worth wearing
Runway hoodies tend to cost a small fortune, but what makes them look right is not a secret. It comes down to a few physical things.
Weight. A heavy fabric falls straight from the shoulders and does not cling. Thin hoodies look tired after a few washes.
The hood. It needs enough depth to stand up a little when it is down and to cover properly when it is up.
Proportion. A boxy body with dropped shoulders reads as intentional. A regular cut sized up just looks too big.
Finishing. Double stitched seams, ribbed cuffs that hold at the wrist, a kangaroo pocket that sits flat.
The one we make
Our pullover hoodie is built on exactly those points. It is cut in 400 GSM French terry with an oversized boxy fit, a kangaroo pocket, double stitched seams, ribbed cuffs and an embroidered logo. In black it does what the runway hoodies do: it goes with almost anything and looks better the more you wear it.
Wear it the way the shows did this year. Under a long coat, over a heavyweight tee, with straight trousers and clean shoes. The hoodie does not need to be the loudest thing in the outfit to be the best thing in it.
